Wellness Policy

Palmetto Scholars Academy (PSA) recognizes that student health, proper nutrition, and regular physical activity are strongly connected to academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, and lifelong healthy habits. PSA is committed to maintaining a school environment that promotes wellness, supports healthy choices, and encourages students to develop habits that contribute to their overall well-being.

PSA regularly reviews its wellness practices and welcomes input from families, staff, scholars, and community members as part of this ongoing process.

Nutrition & Healthy Choices

PSA maintains applicable school meal and snack standards consistent with federal nutrition guidelines, including requirements associated with the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, and USDA Smart Snacks in School standards, as applicable.

Water is available to students throughout the school day at water fountains and bottle-filling stations located throughout the building.

Physical Activity & Movement

PSA recognizes the importance of regular movement throughout the school day. Teachers are encouraged to incorporate short movement breaks during extended instructional periods when appropriate.

All students receive a 30-minute lunch period, providing time to eat and an opportunity for appropriate physical activity and movement.

Community Involvement

PSA values the participation of families, staff, scholars, and community members in supporting a healthy school environment. Feedback regarding school wellness practices is welcomed and may be considered as PSA reviews and evaluates its wellness efforts.
