At PSA we want to be a welcoming source of help and encouragement to our military families. Please check out the following resources in our area.

Military and Family Life Counseling Program

Child and youth behavioral military and family life counselors provide support to military children for a variety of issues, including low self-esteem, behavioral problems, and changes at home. These counselors, who are part of the Military and Family Life Counseling Program, understand the issues military children face and can be especially helpful during challenging periods, including deployments and PCS moves.

Important Dates

  • Lottery Application Window Opens: January 11, 2027
  • Application Deadline: February 11, 2027
  • Lottery Drawing: February 12, 2027
  • Notification of Results: After the lottery is conducted

All completed applications submitted during this window will be included in the official lottery.

Applications submitted after the deadline will be placed on a waitlist in the order received.

How the Lottery Works

  1. Submit your application during the open enrollment window
  2. All eligible applications are entered into a random lottery
  3. Students are selected based on available seats per grade level
  4. Remaining applicants are placed on a waitlist

If more applications are received than available seats, PSA conducts a public, legally compliant lottery process to determine placement.

Who Can Apply

PSA is open to:

  • Students in grades 6–12
  • Residents of South Carolina
  • Students ready for a rigorous, accelerated academic environment

All students must provide proof of South Carolina residency at the time of enrollment.

Is PSA the Right Fit?

PSA offers a highly rigorous, accelerated curriculum designed for students who are ready to be challenged academically.

While we welcome all applicants, families should consider whether their student is prepared for:

  • advanced coursework
  • high academic expectations
  • a fast-paced learning environment

     

Required Documents for Enrollment

If your student is offered a seat, the following documents will be required:

  • Birth Certificate (long form)
  • Military Orders for Military Affiliated Families
  • Proof of Residency (must match application)
  • Most Recent Report Card
  • SC Immunization Record (DHEC Form or exemption)
  • IEP or 504 Plan (if applicable)
  • ILAP (if applicable)

Important Reminders

  • Applications must be complete to be eligible for the lottery
  • Waitlists do not carry over from year to year
  • A new application is required each school year
  • Seats are limited and fill quickly

The program focuses on issues and transitions military families face, including social skill building, improved communication, meeting new people, effective use of feelings, and confidence building.  Conversations with military students are kept confidential unless a Duty to Warn is deemed necessary.
