Hello PSA Families!
As the start of the school year is quickly approaching and changes are around every corner, we want to ensure that our families stay informed. The PSA Board of directors met on July 29th and approved an administrative request to change the start day of school to Tuesday, August 25th. This decision is in response to the South Carolina Legislature requiring school districts to offer Learn Evaluate Analyze Prepare (LEAP) days prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Please note, state LEAP days are not the same nor are they associated with what PSA refers to as Leap day.
PSA will be utilizing the week of Aug. 17-21 for the optional in person on campus Learn Evaluate Analyze Prepare days.
The legislation requires that districts must pre-assess all students, in kindergarten through grade nine to help determine their academic strengths and weaknesses. These additional days will be used to complete these assessments. PSA will be using MAP testing to meet this requirement and obtain data to help guide instruction in the coming school year.
MAP, or the Measure of Academic Progress, is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child’s academic growth. Additional information can be found here: https://www.nwea.org/parent-
These additional days also provide students the opportunity to pick up supplies, textbooks, meet teachers, and ask questions.
A sign-up genius will be going out to families in the next few days. Families with students in grades 6th – 9th will select a day and a time block that is convenient for them. Students in grades 10th-12th will have shorter time blocks available to them as they are not required to test.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as we are navigating these ever changing times. We are eager to begin the 2020-2021 school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Destiny Grant at email@example.com.
